Short bio

I am a biologist by training. I received my PhD at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at the ETH Zurich in 2003, for my pioneering work on the development of a software platform for the analysis of Fluorescence Speckle Microscopy applied to the study of cell motility.

I then moved to The Scripps Research Institute, San Diego, California, for my post-doc, where I further developed the software.

I joined the Friedrich Miescher Institute (part of Novartis Research Foundation) in Susan Gasser’s group in April 2005 and moved to FMI’s Facility for Advanced Imaging and Microscopy (FAIM) in January 2006. In FAIM I worked as an image processing and analysis specialist and as a scientific software developer and consultant. I wrote dedicated software for analyzing microscopy data and, in general, helped scientists with their imaging projects.

In May 2012 I joined the  Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering of the ETH Zurich (in Basel) as a Software and Data Management Engineer in the newly established Single Cell Facility.

I am involved in a series of open source projects.
